High-flying credit union performance

121 kites fly over Washington, one for every credit union

[September 8, 2009]

A kite for every credit union in Washington will fly over Seattle's Gasworks Park on September 9, creating a colorful, one-day art performance.

Professional kite flyer, Seth Abramson, will launch "Kites Over Washington" around 8 a.m., weather permitting, from Gasworks Parks on the north shore of Lake Union. If the wind stays steady, Abramson will fly all 121 kites continuously until sunset, around 7:30 p.m.

The afternoon wind was perfect for the kite-flying art performance in Seattle. View more photos and other information at www.discovercreditunions.com/kites.

The high-flying performance is a gift to the citizens of the state, inspired and sponsored by the Credit Unions of Washington, a cooperative that pools funds for industry advertising and special events. Bill Grant, with the credit unions' creative agency, Big Bang Electrical, said the art display will continue an awareness campaign begun in February for the cooperative.

"The artist's intention is to give people a moment of calm away from all the economic chaos and grind," Grant said.
