Passwords for your protection

New STCU's NetTeller® options provide greater security

Spokane Teachers Credit Union has beefed up password security for STCU's NetTeller® online account access service. The level of protection you desire depends entirely on you!

OPTION #1: If you like your current password, and you don't want to change it, simply leave it the way it is. End of story.

OPTION #2: If you want to maximize your security against potential hackers, you can change your password to make it more secure.  You can do it right where you are!

Why should I change my password?

Your password is the secret combination you use to access your funds at STCU. The more complex your password, the less likely that someone else could ever guess your "combination."

Many members still use four-digit numerical passwords. Thanks to new improvements to STCU's NetTeller, you can now change your password to one that has up to 10 alpha-numeric (letters and numbers) and special characters.

Statistics show that the chance of someone guessing a four-digit password is 1-in-10,000. But the odds of someone guessing a six-character, alpha-numeric, case-sensitive password is 1-in-606,355,001,344. If you use 10 characters, it's 1 in 43,438,845,422,363,213,824. That's an impressive upgrade in security for very little effort!

How often should I change my password?

Experts recommend changing your password every 90 days or sooner. More importantly, use strong passwords that don’t include dictionary words or personal details such as your name. In addition, avoid using the same password for all of your accounts, so that if one account is compromised, the same password cannot be used to gain entry to your other personal accounts.

How do I change my password in NetTeller?

  1. Return to the STCU home page and log onto NetTeller with your current member number and password.
  2. Click on the "Actions" drop-down list and choose "Change password."
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to change your password.

What characters can I use in my password?

Your new NetTeller password can be composed of 6 to 10 characters, using letters (case-sensitive), numbers, or symbols.

NOTE: Changing your NetTeller password DOES NOT change your CATT® (Computer Aided Telephone Teller) password. To change your CATT password, call (509) 326-3971 or toll-free at (800) 634-0311. CATT passwords can be up to 10 numbers.

For added protection, NetTeller blocks access to your account after a certain number of unsuccessful log-in attempts. To restore access to your account, please contact the credit union.

For assistance during business hours, use our LiveChat instant messaging service or call Spokane Teachers at (509) 326-1954 or toll-free at (800) 858-3750.
