Nutcrackers created by Garfield Elementary School students will be on display at the INB Performing Arts Center during performances of Tchaikovsky's holiday classic. After this weekend’s performances, 14 of the nutcrackers will be on display at STCU’s Main Branch for the five days leading up to Christmas (Dec. 20-24).
In what has become a holiday tradition, the school is hosting a nutcracker-building contest. After school today, STCU employees will select the top 10 creations. Thursday morning, each of those 14 students will receive a pair of tickets to a Nutcracker performance, and they’ll see their creations put on display.
Construction materials and styles are completely up to the students. Some use wood, while others use recycled materials or papier-mache… you never know what they’ll come up with!
STCU is a major sponsor of the Spokane Symphony’s performances of The Nutcracker, this year featuring Ballet Memphis. The credit union is donating performance tickets for use by some families with children receiving care at Providence Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital.
