STCU supports scholarships

Doing our part for local students

[April 4, 2011]

As a company founded by educators, with a board full of retired teachers and a CEO whose previous job was VP at a local university, supporting education is a top priority at STCU.

This spring, STCU has committed more than $8,000 to support organizations in our region that highlight a commitment to education.

  • STCU staff gathered with over 300 high-school seniors and 150 community business professionals March 23 for the Post Falls Reverse Job Fair, now in its fifth year. For two hours, the professionals interviewed high school seniors who'd prepared a visual portfolio based on their research in a chosen career field. Hosted by the Post Falls Chamber of Commerce Business, Education and Workforce Development Committee, the event awarded $5,500 in scholarship money to outstanding students, including a $500 scholarship presented by STCU, to Chanse Watson of Post Falls High School.
  • STCU is excited to support academic achievement at the Spokane Scholars banquet on April 20. Since 1991, the Spokane Scholars Foundation has recognized excellence in the academic performance of area high school seniors. Scholars are nominated by their high school teachers and counselors for excellence in the areas of English, world languages, fine arts, math, social studies, and science. The STCU contribution will provide a grant for one of these outstanding students.
  • Finalists for the STCU Focus Scholarship will gather on the campus of Washington State University Spokane on April 28 to be honored for their efforts in career and technical education (CTE). Each applicant presented a portfolio detailing his or her experience in CTE programs and plans for continuing on a career path in a chosen field. Three $2,000 scholarships will be presented that evening to the top three finalists.

STCU is proud to support these outstanding local scholarship programs. For more information on STCU’s community outreach, or how to request funds for your nonprofit cause, visit our community involvement page.
